Goa, a tiny emerald land on the west coast of India, the
25th State in the Union of States of India, was
liberated from Portuguese rule in 1961. It was part of
Union territory of Goa, Daman & Diu till 30 May 1987
when it was carved out to form a separate State.
A very striking feature of Goa is the harmonious
relationship among various religious communities, who
have lived together peacefully for generations.
Though a
late entrant to the planning process, Goa has emerged as
one of the most developed States in India and even
achieved the ranking of one of the best states in India
with regards to investment environment and
infrastructure...
NORTH GOA
Beyond the mouth of the Mandovi
estuary, the Goan coast sweeps north in a
near-continuous string of beaches, broken only by the
odd salt water creek, rocky headland, and three tidal
rivers. |
PRIME
BEACHES
IN NORTH GOA :
|
|
Calangute Beach:
Discovered by the first band of hippies to
arrive in Goa, this beach has earned the name of
'Queen of Beaches'. This 7 km stretch of sand is
the most crowded beach and amply equipped
with eateries, shacks, clubs and hotels. The
approach roads to the beach are also popular
tourist shopping areas. The atmosphere is
friendly and everybody is welcomed with a smile.
The beach is rock-free though swimming in the
waters is not advised as the currents can be
tricky.
Baga Beach:
What originally was a fishing village at the
northern end of calangute is now one of the most
popular party destinations in the world. It is
bordered in by a hill on one side and has a
quaint creek running alongside, giving it a
delightful ambience. Crystal blue water attract
a large number of swimmers however its uncertain
currents must be taken into account. Water
sports in almost every form are popular here. In
the night the beach transformers itself and its
most famous landmark, club Tito's is the place
to be. Cafe Mambo's on the other side is a
favorite haunt of all the party regulars too.
Vagator Beach:
People having fun in the water, picturesque
beaches dotted by swaying palms it has to be the
famous Vagator beach. This little piece of
heaven is made up of a series of little beaches
and looks as is it fell out of a picture
postcard. It is one of Goa's trademark soft-sand
beaches. One can find beautiful farmhouses and
old Portuguese bungalows along its length.
During the night it is not uncommon to find a
boisterous beach party underway. It is the
perfest destination for a small-budget, vacation
that offers a grand scale joyride.
Anjuna Beach:
Is the last remaining sronghold of the Hippie
generation and one of the most colorful beaches
in Goa. It is the embodiment of the
Kaleidoscopes of cultures and attracts the most
fascinating people right from the artist of the
radicals. Its legendary wednesday flea market is
the coolest place to be in season offering its
visitor a glimpse into another world.

Vainguinim Beach

Vainguinim Beach / Dona
Paula: 7 Km south from the centre of
Panaji, Vainguinim is known around the world for
Cidade de Goa. The beach itself is secluded and
quite pleasant. On its west is the Dona Paula
area, a small, Peaceful palm fringed beach
backed by casuarinas groves.
Sinquerim Beach:
13 Km north of Panaji. The firm sand on this
'exclusive' beach of Goa continues uninteruppted,
past Candolim and further north to the happening
Goa beaches of Calangute and Baga. The sports
facilities are amongst the best of any Goa
beach. Dolphin watching boat trips embark from
the close by Calangute Beach. Drawn mainly by
the clientele of the resorts the beachfront here
has many excellent restaurants and cafes (along
with itinerant vendors).
Candolim Beach:
14 Km notht of Panaji. This beach of Goa is
lesser developed than the adjoining Sinquerim
and a favourite amongst the British travellers.
Backed by dunes, this straight and long Goa
beach is home to many excellent 'International'
Shacks.
