Nagaur:
A fortified city amidst the Thar Desert
is one of the most fascinating towns of
the Rajputs having a chivalrous past.
Home to some exquisite frescoes and
lovely murals which are a blend of
Persian and typical Nagaur styles.
Nagaur is the Venue to an annual Cattle
Fair held in Jan-Feb. The town comes
alive during the seven-day event, which
is illuminated by cock and bull fights,
camal races, folk dances and music.
Khimsar Fort: This
magnificent fort is literally off the
beaten track. Set in the midst of sand
dunes, this amazing fort stands as
securely as it did over many centuries
of battle and strife. The construction
of the fort was begun in 1523 by Rao
Karamsji, 8th son of the founder of
Jodhpur Rao Jodha, who chose the spot of
Khimsar, 90 km from Jodhpur where one
brother resided and 150 km away from
Bikaner, fiefdom of another brother.
Balsamand Lake: Balsamand
Palace is a heritage hotel located at
Five kilometres north to the city of
Jodhpur overlooking maginificent
Balsamand Lake. It is a fine specimen of
Rajput architecture in red sandstone
surrounded by wide expanses of lush
green gardens. It was built on 13th
century artificial lake, the palace has
been an exquisite setting for royal
leisure and recreation.
